Selvaraghavan: Overview

Selvaraghavan, born on 5 March 1977 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is one of the most influential filmmakers in South Indian cinema. He comes from a film background, being the son of director Kasthuri Raja and elder brother of superstar Dhanush. From childhood, he was exposed to storytelling and cinema culture, which shaped his creative vision. He completed his engineering education at Anna University before entering the film industry. He initially worked as a screenwriter before making his directorial debut with Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002), which became a youth sensation. He followed it with critically acclaimed films like Kaadhal Kondein, 7G Rainbow Colony, and Pudhupettai, known for psychological depth and raw storytelling. Selvaraghavan is widely respected for exploring complex human emotions, dark themes, and intense character arcs. Apart from directing, he has also acted in films, showcasing his versatility. His collaborations with composer Yuvan Shankar Raja are considered iconic in Tamil cinema. Despite ups and downs, he remains a cult figure whose storytelling style has influenced a generation of filmmakers.
