Karan Anshuman is a highly acclaimed Indian film writer, director, and producer who has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of premium digital content in India. Born in 1980 and raised in Mumbai, he developed a deep passion for cinema early on. After completing his schooling at Jamnabai Narsee School, he attended St. Xavier’s College before moving to the United States to pursue an undergraduate degree in filmmaking at Denison University. Before stepping behind the camera, Karan worked as a prominent film critic for the Mumbai Mirror, where he gained a nuanced understanding of storytelling and audience preferences. Karan made his highly anticipated directorial debut in 2015 with the satirical comedy film “Bangistan”, starring Riteish Deshmukh and Pulkit Samrat. While the film showcased his unique comedic voice, it was his transition to the digital streaming space that truly defined his career. He achieved massive critical and commercial success as the creator and director of “Inside Edge”, Amazon Prime Video’s first Indian original series. The gripping sports drama became a massive hit, earning an International Emmy Award nomination for Best Drama and winning him the ITA Award for Best Director. Building on this monumental success, Karan teamed up with Excel Entertainment to create and direct “Mirzapur”, a gritty and intense hinterland crime thriller set in Uttar Pradesh. The series became a cultural phenomenon, further cementing his reputation as a master storyteller capable of crafting complex narratives and memorable characters. In addition to his work in visual media, Karan is also a published author, having made his literary debut with the novel “Kashmirnāmā”. He continues to be a leading creative force in the Indian entertainment industry.
