Irrfan Khan (born Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan; 7 January 1967 – 29 April 2020) was an Indian film actor whose career spanned theatre, television and cinema in both India and abroad. Trained at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, he began in theatre and television before moving into feature films, where his restrained, naturalistic style attracted critical praise.
Over a career of more than three decades, Irrfan appeared in a wide variety of films, from mainstream Bollywood to independent and international productions. Notable performances included Paan Singh Tomar, for which he received major national awards, The Lunchbox, and international films such as Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi.
