Nagraj Popatrao Manjule is a highly acclaimed Indian film director, actor, producer, scriptwriter, and poet, celebrated for his profound and impactful work primarily in Marathi cinema. He attended Savitribai Phule Pune University and the New Arts, Science and Commerce College in Ahmednagar. Manjule burst onto the cinematic scene with his debut short film, “Pistulya,” which earned him the National Film Award for Best First Non-Feature Film of a Director. He followed this success with his feature film debut, “Fandry” (2013), a critically acclaimed exploration of caste discrimination that won several awards. However, it was his second feature film, “Sairat” (2016), that catapulted him to unprecedented fame. The tragic romance became a massive critical and commercial success, breaking box office records for Marathi films and earning a cult following.
