Johnny Lever: Overview

Johnny Lever, born John Prakash Rao Janumala on 14 August 1957, is an Indian actor and comedian renowned for his mimicry, physical comedy and versatility in supporting comic roles. He grew up in a Telugu Christian family and began performing mimicry and small stage acts while working in Mumbai. Lever’s early comic acts on stage and television led to opportunities in Hindi films from the 1980s onward.

Over several decades he has appeared in hundreds of films, often in memorable supporting and comic roles. His work spans mainstream commercial cinema, television and live stage shows; he is widely credited with popularizing a modern form of stand-up and mimicry in India.
