Amitabh Bachchan: Overview

Amitabh Bachchan (born 11 October 1942) is an Indian film actor, producer, playback singer and television host whose career spans more than five decades. He emerged in the 1970s as a defining figure in Hindi cinema, noted for a deep baritone voice, intense performances and a range of roles from “Angry Young Man” to elder statesman characters in later years.

He began his career in the early 1960s, achieved widespread fame with landmark films such as Zanjeer, Deewar and Sholay, and later expanded his work into film production, television presenting and playback singing. Bachchan gained national prominence as a television presenter with the Indian adaptation of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Kaun Banega Crorepati) and has participated in numerous cultural and philanthropic initiatives. Over his career he has been recognized with many awards and honors for both artistic and public service contributions.
